Abstract

This thesis discusses the effectiveness of using golf flash animation to teach simple present tense at the seventh grade students of SMP Al-Huda Semarang in the academic year of 2012/2013. The statement of the problem in this research are the use of golf flash animation to teach simple present tense at seven grade Students at SMP al-Huda Semarang is effective or not and how is the effectiveness of using golf flash animation to teach simple present tense at SMP Al-Huda Semarang in the academic year of 2012/ 2013. The objectives of this research are to find out the effectiveness of using golf flash animation to teach simple present tense at the Seventh Grade of SMP Al-Huda Semarang in the academic year of 2012/ 2013 and to identify the degree of its effectiveness.
The population of this research was the seventh grade students of SMP Al-Huda Semarang. The research methodology was an experimental research which involved two classes; the experimental class (VII A) and the control class (VII B). The class of VII A was taught by using Golf Flash Animation, while the class of VII B was taught without using Golf Flash Animation. Firstly, the researcher gave try-out test to try-out test class (VIIIA). The test had been tried out to find out the validity, reliability, difficulty level, and discriminating power before it was used to gather the data. The formula that was used to analyze the data was t-test. It was used to determine whether there was a significance difference between students’ scores in the experimental class and in the control class or not.
After collecting the data, it was found that the pre-test average of the experimental class was 62.625 and control class was 61.625. While, the post-test average of the experimental class was 76.25 and control class was 67.656. Based on the result of calculation t-test is obtained : 2. 861 and the was 1. 67. This shows that > (2. 861 > 1.67). It means that Ha was accepted while Ho was rejected. Since t-test score was higher than the t-table, golf flash animation was effective medium to teach English simple present tense at the seventh grade students of SMP Al-Huda Semarang in the academic year of 2012/ 2013.
Finally the researcher suggests to the teachers or the readers that they may use golf flash animation as one of medium to teach English simple present tense.
