Abstract

This study is based on students’ low participation and understanding on grammar especially in passive voice. The researcher uses quiz team technique because it can make the learning process fun and no threatening ways. The quiz competition helps develop the students’ responsibility in mastering the materials individually or group. The problem of this research can be stated as follow:
1. How is the implementation of quiz team technique to improve students’ understanding on passive voice?
2. How is the improvement of students’ understanding on passive voice after being taught by quiz team technique?

Its purposes are:
1. To describe the implementation of quiz team technique to improve students’ understanding on passive voice
2. To explain the improvement of students’ understanding on passive voice after being taught by quiz team technique

This study is a classroom action research that was done in four cycles. The researcher used test and observation checklist to collect the data. To analyze the data, descriptive quantitative analysis is used; it is to present the result of study in the form of descriptive explanation. Statistic analysis is used to analyze the data about the improvement of students’ understanding on passive voice.

Result of the study shows that the use of quiz team technique in teaching passive voice at MA. Matholi’ul Huda Bugel Kedung Jepara can be improved and get good responses. The total of students’ improvement achieve 85 % of 39 students.

The result of this study is expected to be an information material for many teachers especially English teachers in teaching grammar so that they can facilitate students understanding on the material being delivered.
