Abstract

The background of the study in this research is based on the phenomena that students in MTs Al Asror Gunung Pati Semarang usually get bored and unmotivated to learn grammar. So the researcher teach grammar especially using matching game containing interesting game, simple vocabulary, easy to understand and funny.
The problem of this research can be stated as follow:
1. How is the implementation of matching game to improve students’ understanding on question tag?
2. How is the improvement of students’ understanding on question tag after being taught using matching game?
The Objectives are:
1. To describe the implementation of matching game to improve students’ understanding on question tag.
2. To identify the improvement of students’ understanding on question tag after being taught using matching game.
The method of the research is a classroom action research through three cycles. The population of this study was the second grade of MTs Al Asror Gunung Pati Semarang and the subject of this study was 23 students. The classroom action research was done in three stages; pre cycle, first cycle, second cycle and third cycle. These cycles consist of four stages, planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. In teaching learning process, researcher used matching game technique. The data collecting use test and observation.
The improvement of students was very significant, In the pre cycle the average of the students’ achievement was 5,9. In the first cycle the average of the students’ achievement was 6,5. In the second cycle the average of the students’ achievement was 7,4. In the third cycle the average of the students’ achievement was 7,8. The treatment was successful because their grammar skills had been improved. It can be concluded that matching game could improve students’ understanding on question tag through matching game at the second grade of MTs Al Asror Gunung Pati in the Academic Year of 2010/2011.
