Abstract

The background of the study in this research is based on the phenomena that students have difficulties in mastering vocabulary especially on concrete noun. To make the students easier in mastering vocabulary the teacher should uses an appropriate media in learning process. Multimedia VCD is one of media that can be used in teaching vocabulary. By using Multimedia VCD, the students are interest in learning new vocabulary and able to master the vocabulary.
The objective of this study is to describe the implementation of using ‘Multimedia VCD’ in teaching vocabulary and to find out the significant of using ‘Multimedia VCD’ in improving students’ mastery on vocabulary.
This research was a classroom action research. The subjects of this study were the students of 4th grade of SD Islam Al – Azhar 25 Semarang in the academic year of 2009/2010. The number of the subjects was 30 students. The process of this research was conducted in four stages, including, pre cycle, cycle 1, cycle 2, and cycle 3. Cycle 1 was planned after conducting pre cycle. Cycle 2 was conducted based on the reflection results of cycle 1. And cycle 3 was conducted based on the reflection results of cycle 2. The data were collected by using documentation, test, and observation during the teaching learning process in pre cycle, cycle 1, cycle 2 and cycle 3. The data were analyzed by using quantitative descriptive analysis.
The results of the analysis were used to describe the improvement of students’ mastery on vocabulary which was indicated by their achievement in vocabulary. It can be seen from the result in pre cycle students’ achievement was 50.933333, it increased become 62.6 in cycle 1. In cycle 2 students’ achievement increased up to 76.266667, then in cycle 3 increased 82.6.
Based on the results of the research, it can be concluded that by using ‘Multimedia VCD’ in teaching vocabulary, the researcher can improve students’ mastery on vocabulary. And it was hoped that it can be valuable as the information resource for students, teachers, and the researcher herself.
