Abstract

ABSTRACT
Background: Hypertension is one of the leading causes of premature death throughout the world. Having a normal Body Mass Index (BMI) and waist circumference as well as good physical activity is necessary to maintain cardiovascular health. Obesity which is indicated by excessive BMI and Waist Circumference and accompanied by low physical activity is a risk factor for high blood pressure.
Purpose: To determine the relationship between body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, and physical activity with blood pressure of Ihya' Ulumuddin Kudus Foundation employees and the most related variables.
Methods: The study was conducted with a cross sectional design at the Ihya 'Ulumuddin Kudus Foundation. The entire population is the sample in the study with a total of 62 respondents. The data measured were weight using a digital scale, height using a microtoice, waist circumference using a metline, and blood pressure using a digital sphygmomanometer, and physical activity using the IPAQ questionnaire. Bivariate analysis using Chi square test and Mann-Whitney test and multivariate test using ordinal logistic regression.
Results: Characteristics of respondents BMI were classified as thin (6.5%), normal (40.3%) and obese (53.2%), waist circumference was normal (61.3%) and at risk (38.7%), physical activity was moderate (54.8%) and high (45.2%), systolic blood pressure was normal (41.9%), prehypertension (35.5%) and hypertension (22.6%), diastolic blood pressure was low (1, 6%), normal (50%), prehypertension (30.6%) and hypertension (17.7%). The results of bivariate analysis showed that BMI, waist circumference and physical activity had a significant relationship with the respondent's systolic blood pressure (p value <0.05). BMI and waist circumference had a significant relationship with the respondent's diastolic blood pressure (p value <0.05) and physical activity had no significant relationship with the respondent's diastolic blood pressure (p value> 0.05). The results of multivariate analysis showed that BMI had a significant effect on the respondent's systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure.
Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between BMI, waist circumference, and physical activity with systolic blood pressure. There is a significant relationship between BMI and waist circumference with diastolic blood pressure. Physical activity is not significantly associated with diastolic blood pressure.
