Abstract

ABSTRACT
Background: Dysmenorrhea is a complaint that is often felt during menstruation caused by an increase in prostaglandins in the uterus. Dysmenorrhea is characterized by abdominal cramps, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and irregular mood changes and is experienced by many women, especially teenagers. There are several factors that influence the incidence of dysmenorrhea including nutritional status, physical activity, and habits of consuming junk food.
Method: This study is an observational study with a cross sectional design conducted at Al Amin High School Paciran Lamongan in 2022. This study involved 47 female students with a total sampling method. The data studied included nutritional status obtained from anthropometric measurements (weight and height), physical activity data obtained from the physical activity recall questionnaire using the physical activity level (PAL), data on the habit of consuming junk food with the food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). ), and data on the incidence of dysmenorrhea using the dysmenorrhea questionnaire. Bivariate analysis using Spearman's test.
Result: Univariate results showed that the majority of respondents had normal nutritional status (51.1%), low and heavy physical activity (36.2%) and the habit of consuming junk food frequently (89.4%), and the incidence of dysmenorrhea was rare (66.7%). ). The results of the bivariate analysis showed that there was a relationship between nutritional status and the incidence of dysmenorrhea (p = 0.001). There was no relationship between physical activity and the incidence of dysmenorrhea (p=0.592). There is a relationship between the habit of consuming junk food with the incidence of dysmenorrhea (p = 0.031).
Conclusion: There is a relationship between nutritional status and the habit of consuming junk food with the incidence of dysmenorrhea. There is no relationship between physical activity and the incidence of dysmenorrhea.
