Abstract
This study aims to describe the strategies employed by teacher in developing vocabulary and to describe the students’ responses toward the strategies. This research applies qualitative method. It is descriptive qualitative research. The participants of this research are the learners of MAN 1 Jepara. The instrument used is observation, interview, and documentation. The researcher interviewed 12 learners and one teacher by transcribing the interview result. The findings showed that the teacher applied two strategies of learning strategies. Those strategies are memory and social strategies. While the learners’ responses, it is found that strategies in teaching vocabulary is communicative, and interesting. The implementation of this study pedagogically benefit that language learning strategies in learning vocabulary is essential in process of understanding the material in class.
