This study aims to analyze the Qurˊānic concern on human for protecting environment, focusing on the comparison between Tafsīr Al-ˊAzhar by Buya Hamka and Tafsīr Al-Miṣbāh by Quraish Shihab. This environmental awareness includes understanding and human actions in maintaining and preserving nature as a mandate. The background of this research is based on the increasing environmental issues that require serious attention from mankind, as well as the importance of understanding the religious, spiritual, moral views of the Qurˊān can provide relevant references. These two interpretations have different approaches in interpreting verses related to the environment, thus providing comprehensive insights. This research uses a qualitative method that is a literature study in analyzing its interpretation. As well as using a comparative study to compare in an effort to find similarities and differences in interpretation. The results of this study show that both Tafsīr Al-ˊAzhar and Tafsīr Al-Miṣbāh emphasize the importance of protecting and preserving the environment as part of human responsibility as a caliph on earth, while the difference is in the emphasis and approach used. Where Tafsīr Al-ˊAzhar highlights more on the spiritual, heart, and moral aspects of humans. While Tafsīr Al-Miṣbāh emphasizes more on practical aspects and concrete solutions. This research is expected to contribute to the development of the understanding of the Qurˊān.
