Title: The Role of Instagram in Shaping English Language Learning Among University Students

The development of technology and social media has brought significant changes in various aspects of life, including in language learning. Instagram, as one of the popular social media platforms, is not only used for socializing but also becomes an innovative tool in English language learning. This study aims to explore students' perceive of the role of Instagram in English language learning, as well as identify the benefits and challenges faced in its use. This research utilizes a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were collected through questionnaires and semi-structured interviews involving third semester students of English Education Study Program at Walisongo State Islamic University Semarang. A total of 11 students filled out the questionnaire, and 9 students who met the research criteria participated in interviews for data deepening. The data obtained were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify and interpret patterns or themes in qualitative data. The results showed that the majority of students have a positive perception of Instagram as an English learning media. Instagram is considered to provide flexibility, accessibility, and a more interesting learning experience compared to conventional methods. Various features such as stories, reels, and captions help students improve their vocabulary, reading, listening, and writing skills. However, this study also found some challenges in using Instagram as a learning tool. Distractions from irrelevant content, limited internet access, and lack of structure in learning materials are obstacles that students often face. Thus, although Instagram has great potential in supporting English language learning, appropriate strategies are needed to make its use more effective and purposeful.
