Tolerance is an important value in maintaining the harmony of a diverse society, especially in Indonesia, which consists of various religions, ethnicities, and cultures. However, along with the increasing cases of intolerance, both in the general public and the school environment, it shows the need for real steps in internalizing these values. This study aims to examine the process of internalizing tolerance values through Rohani Islam extracurricular at SMP N 16 Semarang. The type of research used is qualitative descriptive with data collection methods, namely observation, interviews, and documentation.
The results of this study show that Rohani Islam extracurricular at SMP N 16 Semarang has been successful in helping schools to internalize tolerance values to students. There are three stages carried out in internalizing tolerance values at SMP N 16 Semarang, namely the stage of value transformation, value transactions, and value transinternalization. The methods used in internalizing tolerance values are the exemplary method, habituation method, lectures method, discussions and questions and answers method, and organization. The internalized tolerance values are accepting differences, brotherhood and humanity, respecting the beliefs of other religions, allowing or not imposing desires, and being polite in preaching. These values are internalized through several Rohani Islam extracurricular activities such as zuhr prayer attendants, the recitation of Asmaul Husna, Jum’at Religi, the commemoration of Islamic holidays, and Pesantren Kilat.
