ABSTRACT
Tafakkur or thinking, is an essential trait for believers, serving as a means of expressing gratitude to Allah for the gift of intellect. The creation of the nature encompassing the earth, sky, and celestial bodies demonstrates God's power and greatness, inviting humanity to reflect on its natural beauty. The Qur'an encourages such reflection, highlighting divine signs in all creations. However, contemporary society is characterised by a decline in individuals engaging in tafakkur , largely due to distractions from modern life that obscure awareness of the Creator and the intricacies of nature. This research examines tafakkur through a comparative analysis of Tafsīr Al-Munīr by Wahbah Az-Zuhaili and Tafsīr Al-Azhār by Buya Hamka. The study explores the alienation of modern humans from nature, exacerbated by technological advancements and urbanisation, which diminishes ecological and spiritual awareness. The research aims to explore how both mufasir interpret natural tafakkur and identify their similarities and differences. The findings reveal that Az-Zuhaili adopts a scientific and philosophical lens in Tafsīr Al-Munīr, using natural phenomena as evidence of Allah's greatness. Conversely, Buya Hamka emphasises a reflective and spiritual approach in Tafsīr Al-Azhār, appealing to the introspective nature of humanity. Despite their divergent methodologies, both scholars concur that contemplation of the natural world is vital for recognizing Allah's grandeur and strengthening faith. The study concludes that tafakkur is crucial in modern life to bridge the gap between spirituality and the natural environment, promoting ecological responsibility and a deeper connection with the Creator.
