Abstract

This study aims to empirically examine the effect of Mozart's classical music on the improvement of short-term memory in four-grade students at MI Yayasan Pendidikan Islam Hj. Sholehah. The research method used was an experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The subjects consisted of 12 students who were tested using three short-term memory measurement tools: digit span forward, digit span backward, and meaningless word recall. The data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test to assess the significance of differences between pretest and posttest scores, and the N-Gain score was calculated to determine the magnitude of improvement in short-term memory ability. The results showed that all three measurement tools yielded significance values below 0.05, specifically 0.002 for digit span forward, 0.018 for digit span backward, and 0.002 for meaningless word recall, indicating a significant improvement after the intervention of Mozart's classical music. The highest N-Gain score was obtained in digit span forward at 0.8389 (high category), followed by digit span backward at 0.6712 (medium category), and meaningless word recall at 0.2261 (low category). These findings suggest that Mozart's classical music effectively enhances students' short-term memory, especially in tasks involving repetition and simple information processing. In conclusion, Mozart's classical music can be used as an effective learning medium to improve students' short-term memory abilities. This study recommends that teachers and parents utilize classical music as a cognitive stimulation tool in the teaching and learning process.
