Abstract

This study examined the significant correlation between the frequency of watching English film and students listening skill at XI IA II of SMA N 1 Mayong Jepara in The Academic year 2012/2013. The statements of the problem in this study were: 1. How is students’ frequency of watching English film at XI IA II of SMA N 1 Mayong Jepara in the academic year of 2012/2013? 2. How is students’ listening skill at XI IA II of SMA N 1 Mayong Jepara in the academic year of 2012/2013? 3. Is there any correlation between the frequency of watching English film and students’ listening skills? The research was correlation research. Conducted in XI IPA II class. The techniques of collecting data were questionnaire, test and documentation. The research was done to measure the students’ frequency of watching English film and listening skill. The data show that 2 students have Upper Middle frequency of watching English film (17.14 %), 22 students have Lower Middlefrequency of watching English film (62.86 %), 7students have lowerfrequency of watching English film (20 %). It is represented that most students of IA II SMA N 1 Mayong have the lower middlefrequency of watching English film. The higher score of them was 78 and the lowest score was 50. While for students’ listening skill, the data indicate that 27 students have goodlistening skill (77.14%). 1 student has fair listening skill (2.86%). 7 students have Poor listening skill (20 %). It is represented that most students of IA II SMA N 1 Mayong have good listening skill. The higher score of them was 80 and the lowest score was 40. Based on the corelation coeficient got the resultCoefficient correlation was 0.587. It means that there are the significant correlation between the frequency of watching English film and students listening skill at XI IA II at SMA N 1 Mayong Jepara in The Academic year 2012/2013. Based on the result above the researcher concluded the students of SMA N 1 Mayong had lower middle frequency of watching English film and good listening skill. Watching English film has positive influence to listening skill. It means that the student who has high frequency of watching English film will have high listening skill. While the student who has low frequency of watching English film will have low listening skill. By this research, the researcher suggested that the teacher and the parents should improve the student frequency of watching English filmin order the student’s listening skill can be increased.
