Abstract

Grammar rules are the most important things that should be concerned in writing skill. A study by Nuri Ulfah Isnaini(2017) revealed that in the students’ writing text found many grammatical error types on the recount texts. The researcher conduct descriptive qualitative study which were gained through document analysis and observation. This study was aimed to analyse the errors of students’ writing recount text made by the eighth grade students MTs NU 11 Kisabariman. The number of population is 146 students. The researcher uses purposive sampling technique to collecting and analysing the data. Based on the observation and teacher recommendation, eight-grade A have more potential in their writing. The source of data consist of 20 students’ writing Recount Text about their personal experience. The researcher analyzed the errors based on Betty S. Azarr classification. The study found 168 items of errors from these categories: Verb tense, Word Choice, Punctuation, Article, Capitalization, Spelling, Add a Word, Omit a Word, Singular-Plural, Run a Sentence, Word Form, Meaning not Clear. The study conclude that Verb Tense error type is mostly found in the students’ writing text. The students not quite understand the use of past tense in recount text. The researcher hope this study can reference students to improve their writing by focusing their errors. This study also provide an overview for teacher to determine the appropriate method in learning.
