After the enactment of Law Number 16 of 2019 cases of early marriage in Limbangan sub-district is increasing. From October 2019 to December 2021 32 cases of early marriage were recorded. In 2021, out of 281 marriages there are 19 cases early marriage or about 6%.
Based on this background, problems arise namely what are the causes of early marriage in the Limbangan sub-district after its enactment Law Number 16 of 2019 and what is the perspective of Islamic law on early marriage in the Limbangan sub-district.
This study uses a legal approach empirical juridical with data collection through documentation, interviews and observation then analyzed by qualitative descriptive analysis.
The research results show that causes of early marriage in the Limbangan sub-district after the enactment of the Law Law Number 16 of 2019, namely because of one's own will and people's concerns old; parental permissiveness; promiscuity that causes pregnancy and childbirth; differences in the understanding of Islamic law and marriage law in Indonesia are mainly related with age; and ignorance of society about changes in the age limit for marriage. Meanwhile, early marriages that occur in the Limbangan subdistrict are legal according to Islamic law, but the principles and objectives of the marriage have not been fulfilled because they marry at an immature age both physically, mentally and materially.
