Abstract

Duolingo has been incorporated into English language learning in both formal and informal settings. This research aims to find out the experiences of EFL students in learning English using mobile gamification applications in contexts outside the classroom. This study used qualitative research and a descriptive approach. The Informants of this study were 20 students of Eighth-grade students of MTs NU I'anatuth Thullab, which consisted of 12 males and 8 females. Data collection techniques in this study was interview, while the data analysis techniques were data reduction, presentation, and conclusions. The study revealed that the use of the Duolingo application was very satisfying and exciting in enhancing the EFL students' motivation to learn English. This study showed that Duolingo is an app where every beginner can start learning a foreign language as it motivates them to keep on making progress in learning English.
