The connotative meaning of Sinci Gus Dur is a symbol of pluralism and humanity. Gus Dur freed the ethnic Chinese from the shackles of the New Order government's regulations, restored the civil rights of ethnic Chinese who were Confucian or Buddhist, by removing Presidential Decree No. 14/1967 and Decree No. 13/2001 to formalize Chinese New Year as an optional holiday. Where the policy opened the faucet for religious freedom for the Chinese community.
