Urgensi arah kiblat di Sulawesi Selatan masih menjadi sebuah polemik dalam hal validasi arah kiblat, dikarenakan masih terdapat kemelencengan arah kiblat masjid dibeberapa Kabupaten/kota, maka perananan Ulil Amri khususnya Kementerian Agama Provinsi Sulawesi Selatan memiliki kewajiban untuk mengurus kepentingan-kepentingan umat salah satunya adalah persoalan arah kiblat agar sesuai dengan kaidah dalam kajian ilmu falak.
Penelitian ini dimaksudkan untuk menjawab permasalahan: 1) bagaimana peran Kementerian Agama Provinsi Sulawesi Selatan terhadap penentuan arah kiblat, 2) bagaimana standardisasi arah kiblat Kementerian Agama Provinsi Sulawesi Selatan,merupakan penelitian kualitatif yang sifatnya adalah lapangan (Field Research) dengan pendekatan syar’i, scientific-cum-doctriner, dan etnometodologi menggunakan data penelitian yang diperoleh dengan metode wawancara dan dokumentasi, kemudian data yang telah diolah, dianalisis secara kualitatif.
Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa: pertama, peran Kementerian Agama Provinsi Sulawesi Selatan dalam hal validasi arah kiblat masjid masih kurang efektiv, hal itu berdasarkan dari hasil data perbandingan arah kiblat yang telah dijelaskan, bahwa di beberapa Kabupaten/kota masih terdapat kemelencengan arah kiblat masjid. Kedua, standarisasi arah kiblat Kementerian Agama Provinsi Sulawesi Selatan dibentuk atas dasar problematika penentuan arah kiblat yang terjadi di Provinsi Sulawesi Selatan agar sesuai dengan hukum Islam dan teruji keabsahannya secara ilmiah.

ABSTRACT:
The urgency of the Qibla direction in South Sulawesi is still a polemic in terms of validating the Qibla direction, because there is still a deviation in the Qibla direction of mosques in several districts/cities, the role of Ulil Amri, especially the Ministry of Religion of South Sulawesi Province, has an obligation to take care of the interests of the people, one of which is the issue Qibla direction to suit the rules in the study of astronomy.
This research is intended to answer the following problems: 1) what is the role of the Ministry of Religion of South Sulawesi Province in determining the Qibla direction, 2) how is the standardization of the Qibla direction of the Ministry of Religion of South Sulawesi Province, which is a qualitative research which is Field Research with a syar'i approach, scientific-cum-doctriner, and ethnomethodology using research data obtained by interview and documentation methods, then the data that has been processed, analyzed qualitatively.
The results of this study indicate that: first, the role of the Ministry of Religion of South Sulawesi Province in terms of validating the Qibla direction of mosques is still not effective, this is based on the results of the Qibla direction comparison data which has been explained, that in several districts/cities there is still a deviation in the Qibla direction of the mosque. Second, the standardization of the Qibla direction of the Ministry of Religion of South Sulawesi Province was formed on the basis of the problems of determining the Qibla direction that occurred in South Sulawesi Province so that it complies with Islamic law and has been scientifically tested for validity.
