Abstract

ABSTRACT:
The Tower Mosque is one of the ancient mosques in the city of Semarang. This mosque was built by Yemeni merchants in 1802 AD. Since the beginning, this mosque has never made changes in measuring the direction of the Qibla which was originally determined by Habib Abu Bakar Assegaf Gresik by getting karomah from Allah SWT through riyadhoh done by him. This research formulates the problem, namely how the community responds to the Qibla direction of the Menara Mosque which has never been changed and the accuracy of the Qibla direction of the Menara Mosque.
This research is a qualitative research which is a field research with primary data sources in the form of interviews and observations, as well as secondary data from books and journals. Data collection techniques using observation techniques, interviews and documentation. In data analysis using verification and sociological analysis techniques.
The research results obtained were: 1) The results of interviews with community responses aimed at community organization figures, takmir, congregations, and the community around the mosque showed differences of opinion, some supported and rejected the deviated change in the Qibla direction of the Menara Mosque. 2) The results of checking using the global rashdul qibla method, theodolite and mizwala prove that the Menara Mosque is deviated by 11° 5' 37.4” to the North and is in azimuth 283o 24’ 5,74” UTSB which should be 294o 29' 43 ,14”.
