Abstract

Siklus Dresdensis dalam manuskrip The Dresden Codex Suku Maya, diklaim memprediksi gerhana matahari 11 Juli 1991.

ABSTRACT:
The Dresdensis cycle, in the Mayan manuscript of The Dresden Codex, is claimed to have predicted the solar eclipse of July 11, 1991. This cycle is newer than Saros, but has yet to receive attention from the world of astronomy. This cycle was studied by Harvey-Victoria Bricker from Tulane University, in a journal article entitled Classic Maya Prediction of Solar Eclipse, regarding the entry date of the solar eclipse after the 755-788 cycle. However, it only focuses on the date of entry, and ignores the concept of the Dresdensis cycle and its accuracy. Therefore, this research will focus on knowing the concept of the Dresdensis cycle for predicting eclipses and its accuracy for predicting eclipses.
To explain this problem, it uses a type of qualitative analysis and comparative research. Analysis is explaining the dresdensis cycle in predicting the occurrence of eclipses in the future, and comparative to find out the accuracy of this cycle against the Saros cycle, in which Saros is the most accurate cycle in predicting eclipses.
The Dresdensis cycle is recorded using Mayan’s script, in the form of glyphs and bar e dot, arranged in columns on pages 51 A – 58 B. The interval between eclipses is 148 and 177, and one table has days cumulative total of 11960 days. However, the interval may increase or decrease by one day due to the triple tzolkin correction. The cycle algorithm is only in the form of addition, as reckoning, so the Dresdensis cycle is included in the urfi reckoning category. Even though the algorithm is simple, if you pay attention to the triple tzolkin interval correction, then the prediction will be accurate (same as the Saros cycle), which is the same as NASA's prediction.
