Abstract

Online games have become something that cannot be separated from everyday life, especially in the lives of today's youth. In an online game, there is definitely something called trash talk. Trash talk itself means insulting, degrading and bragging about yourself to other people. Maybe trash talking sounds trivial to most Mobile Legends players because they feel that trash talking is a normal activity, but behind that, trash talking has quite worrying impacts if it continues to be done. This research tries to examine the background that influences the occurrence of trash talk, then the form or characteristics of trash talking, and the impact of the habit of doing trash talking. Research on Mobile Legends players in the Semarang area, Central Java, used a purposive sampling technique, thereby obtaining 5 research subjects who were considered capable of understanding the phenomenon being studied. This research succeeded in revealing that trash talking has a psychological impact, namely that the subject feels comfortable after doing trash talk and there is also an impact on the subject's way of communicating, namely that their habit of trash talking is carried over to the real world.

ABSTRAK:
Game online menjadi sebuah hal yang tidak bisa dipasahkan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari terlebih dalam hidup pemuda pada zaman sekarang. Pada sebuah game online pasti tidak terlepas dari yang namanya trash talk. Trash talk sendiri memiliki arti menghina, merendahkan dan menyombongkan diri sendiri kepada orang lain. Mungkin trash talking terdengar sepele bagi kebanyakan pemain Mobile Legends karena dirasa trash talking menjadi kegiatan yang lumrah dilakukan tetapi dibalik itu semua trash talking memiliki dampak yang cukup menghawatirkan bila terus-terusan dilakukan. Penelitian ini mencoba untuk mengkaji apa saja latar belakang yang mempengaruhi terjadinya trash talk, kemudian bentuk atau karakteristik trash talking, dan dampak yang ditimbulkan dari kebiasan melakukan trash talking. Penelitian kepada para pemain Mobile Legends di daerah Semarang Jawa Tengah menggunakan teknik purposive sampling, sehingga mendapatkan 5 subjek penelitian yang dianggap mampu memahami fenomena yang sedang diteliti. Penelitian ini berhasil mengungkap trash talking memilki dampak pada psikologis yaitu subjek merasa nyaman setelah melakukan trash talk dan juga ada dampak pada cara berkomunikasi subjek yaitu kebiasaan trash talk yang mereka biasa lakukan terbawa hingga ke dunia nyata.
