Abstract

Impulsive buying is a behavior in which individuals carry out an unreasonable buying process that is carried out unexpectedly and suddenly without prior planning and is often accompanied by conflicts in thoughts and emotional impulses. The purpose of this study was to determine and empirically test the effect of fear of missing out (FOMO) and self-regulation on impulsive buying behavior in followers of the @discountfess account in the X application. This research uses a quantitative approach with associative causality method and multiple linear regression analysis. Sampling in this study using accidental sampling technique with a total sample size of 270 respondents. The measuring instruments used include the impulsive buying scale, the FOMO scale and the self-regulation scale. Based on the research that has been done, the results show that there is an influence of FOMO on impulsive buying behavior with a significance value of 0.001 <0.05, there is an influence of self-regulation on impulsive buying behavior with a significance value of 0.000 <0.05, then simultaneously there is an influence between FOMO and self-regulation on impulsive buying behavior with a significance value of 0.000 <0.05. In this case, FOMO and self-regulation have a significant influence on impulsive buying behavior on followers of the @discountfess account in the X application by 67.1%. If individuals have realized that they have been impulsive in shopping, it is hoped that they can reduce this by controlling factors such as FOMO and self-regulation in these individuals.
Keywords : FOMO, self-regulation, and impulse buying.
