Abstract

Women and politics are often considered two very different things that cannot be united because of conflicting natures. Politics is likened to a container full of cunning intrigues to knit a power and is always characterized as masculine, while women are depicted as gentle creatures who have feminine qualities. In addition, the patriarchal culture that dominates the mind, especially in Indonesia, is one of the challenges for women to participate in the world of politics. As a result of this culture, women experience self-doubt about the potential they have to take part in the world of politics.
Not many women realize and can act out when they are intentionally or unintentionally involved in the vortex of power. In the Qur'an, various stories have been explained about women who live in the circle of power, either as a direct leader or just involved as a wife, family or relative of the owner of power. One example is Queen Balqis who led the country of Saba' and Queen Asiyah the wife of Fir’aun, a cruel Egyptian king who claimed to be God. Their role in the world of politics can be our reference in building active participation in the realm of power.
This research uses a critical hertorical method or critical hertory by taking the hertory of women's political roles from the story of Ratu Asiyah and Ratu Balqis in the Qur'an.
Although emancipation efforts have been made by previous female figures such as R.A. Kartini since a century ago, until now the stigma of prioritizing women is still very imprinted so that the role of women in the world of politics is constrained. The article will focus on the story of two women involved in power as reflected in the hertoriography of the Qur'an in the story of Asiyah and Queen Balqis and the role of women in politics, a most interesting aspect associated with the actual situation in the country.
