Abstract
This study explores the use of video captioning to enhance listening comprehension among EFL students in an Islamic secondary school. Despite the proven benefits of captioning in language learning, its application in Islamic educational settings remains underexplored. This research addresses gaps in understanding how captioning tools can be adapted to align with Islamic pedagogical values, technological constraints, and sociocultural relevance.Using a qualitative case study design, the study collected data through interviews and questionnaires with an EFL teacher at SMP Askhabul Kahfi. Findings revealed that video captioning significantly improved students' listening skills and vocabulary acquisition by providing multimodal input. However, challenges such as fast-paced captions and content suitability were noted. The teacher integrated Islamic values into the lessons by selecting morally aligned videos and fostering discussions on ethical applications. The study concludes that video captioning is an effective tool for EFL listening instruction in Islamic schools when combined with structured strategies (e.g., phased listening, vocabulary support) and culturally sensitive content. Recommendations include optimizing captioning techniques, addressing technical limitations, and further research on motivational and contextual factors.
