Abstract

This study explores student perceptions of using Google Sites for academic essay writing reflection within a Project-Based Learning (PJBL) framework, focusing on its role in enhancing creativity. The research involved 7 students from the English Language Education Department at UIN Walisongo Semarang, selected purposively based on variations in their creativity scores. Using a qualitative approach with interview thematic analysis, the study aimed to explore how project-based learning using Google Sites influenced student’s creative processes in writing context. The findings revealed that students viewed PJBL using Google Sites as a helpful tool for organizing ideas, integrating multimedia, and reflecting on their writing process. They appreciated the platform’s ability to enhance their creativity, particularly through the opportunity to personalize their e-portfolios and display their progress over time. However, students also noted limitations such as the lack of real-time feedback features and restrictions on collaborative editing. These constraints made it difficult to engage in simultaneous collaboration, which they felt would have
enhanced the learning experience. PJBL using Google Sites proved to be an effective tool for fostering creativity, reflective thinking, and engagement in academic essay writing within a PJBL framework. Despite some limitations in terms of collaboration and feedback, the platform supported students’ creative development and provided a valuable opportunity for reflective learning in EFL writing instruction. The study suggests that addressing these limitations could further improve the effectiveness of Google Sites in supporting student-centered learning.
