Abstract
This study aims to explore the perceptions, perceived benefits, challenges, and intentions of prospective English teachers regarding the integration of Augmented Reality (AR) into English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teaching. Grounded in Constructivist and Experiential Learning Theories, the research highlights AR’s potential to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes. Using a qualitative method with semi-structured interviews, data were collected from pre-service teachers at UIN Walisongo Semarang. The findings indicate that AR is generally perceived as useful in boosting student motivation and supporting interactive learning, although challenges such as technical issues, lack of institutional support, and limited pedagogical training were identified. Nevertheless, most participants expressed their intention to use AR in the future, provided sufficient training and resources are available. This study contributes to educational technology literature and recommends teacher training and institutional support to enable the effective use of AR in language education.
