Abstract

The background of this research is the importance of speaking skills in English language learning and the high level of anxiety often experienced by students when speaking. This research aims to identify the strategies used by EFL teachers at SMA Negeri 8 Semarang to minimize students' speaking anxiety. This research uses a qualitative method with thematic analysis. Data were collected through interviews and documentation of four EFL teachers as participants. The findings of the analysis show that there are four main strategies used by teachers to minimize students' speaking anxiety, these are: preparation, giving positive affirmation, relaxation, and peer seeking. These strategies were found to be quite effective in helping students manage their anxiety when speaking in class. These findings are expected to serve as a reference for teachers in creating a learning environment that supports the development of students' speaking skills.
