The purpose of this study is to explore the challenges encountered and the strategies employed by EFL students in writing their thesis. To achieve the research objectives, a narrative inquiry approach was employed.The participants of this study were five EFL students from one of the Islamic universities in Semarang who were writing a thesis. The type of data in this study is the problems in thesis writing of 9th semester EFL students. The technique used in this study to collect data is to conduct interviews with participants using WhatsApp video calls and offline direct interviews. This study shows that students have their own strategies in overcoming problems in the thesis writing process such as often consulting with supervisors to improve understanding in writing a thesis, and seeking motivation. This research is valuable to gain information for EFL students who are writing a thesis to provide insight into the common challenges faced in writing a thesis, so that they can prepare better strategies to overcome these obstacles.
