This study aims to explore the challenges faced by teachers in teaching English to young learners and to identify the strategies employed to overcome these challenges with a focus on SD Negeri 2 Candisari. This study uses a qualitative method was adopted for this study involving in-depth interviews with English teachers and analysis of relevant curriculum documents. The teacher faces some challenges in teaching English to young learners in schools. These challenges are the state of teaching English in elementary schools, lack of students' motivation and language environment, students' attention, teaching materials and media, and the socioeconomic factors and lack of support the parents. Then the teacher carried out several strategies to overcome the challenges. The strategies are to develop a good relationship with students, enhance the class enjoyment and fun, integrate technology, use relevant material, and use various assessments. This study highlights the need for more support and training for teachers in rural area schools to enhance the quality of English language education, especially English for young learners. The implications of this study are expected to provide valuable insight for policymakers, curriculum developers, and teachers, particularly in designing more appropriate training and support programs for English language teaching in rural area schools.
