Abstract

This study aims to explain DeepL in English for Academic Purposes. It employed a qualitative method and a narrative inquiry research design. The participants were six students of the English for Academic Purposes Class at UIN Walisongo Semarang, in the academic year 2024/2025. Data collection technique used interview with open-ended questions. Thematic analysis was used as a data analysis technique. The findings show that students believe that DeepL provides accurate and contextually appropriate translations, thus helping them to practice and understand sentence structures and vocabulary more effectively. Although the students recognized the efficiency and easy-to-use features of DeepL, they also emphasized the importance of not relying on it completely. Instead, they believe that it should be used as a supportive tool combined with critical thinking and active English practice. The study concludes that while DeepL can improve language comprehension and academic productivity, it should complement, not replace, conventional learning strategies.
