Abstract

This study aims to explain the implementation of the Kahoot! digital gamification to facilitate students’ mastery of simple present tense and to describe students’ engagement in the process. This research employed a qualitative method and a descriptive research design. The participants were seventh-grade students at MTs 2 Semarang in the 2024/2025 academic year. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis involved a systematic process of transcribing, reading, translating, coding, categorizing, describing, narrating, and interpreting the data based on relevant theories and literature. The findings indicate that the use of digital games, particularly Kahoot! is highly effective in enhancing students’ understanding of the simple present tense. By using digital games, students find the learning process more engaging and interactive, while also providing them with opportunities to practice grammar repeatedly in an enjoyable manner. Students’ perceptions of the use of digital games in learning are also highly positive, as they believe that this medium reduces boredom and increases their attention and engagement in class. Thus, gamification in English language learning not only boosts students’ motivation but also creates a more meaningful and enjoyable learning experience, ultimately supporting a deeper understanding of grammatical concepts.
