Abstract

This thesis presented the result of teaching speaking of hortatory exposition by using Time Token Arends (TTA) Strategy at the eleventh grade of SMA Wahid Hasyim Tersono, Batang in the Academic Year of 2015/2016. The primary purpose of this research was to know the effectiveness of Time Token Arends (TTA) strategy to teach speaking in hortatory exposition. The research question was how is the effectiveness of Time Token Arends Strategy to teach speaking in hortatory exposition? The research objective was to find out the effectiveness of Time Token Arends Strategy to teach speaking in hortatory exposition. In taking the sample, the researcher used simple random sampling technique. This means that the sample member taking based on the population which had been set. Class Science was chosen as the experimental class who were taught speaking skills in hortatory exposition using TTA strategy and class XI Social as control class who were taught speaking skills in hortatory exposition without using TTA strategy. The instrument used to collect the data was performance test. The technique to analyze the data was t-test formula. It was used to determine whether there was or there was not a significant difference between the average score of the experimental and the control class. The average of post-test experimental class was 65.14 which were higher than the average post-test of the control class was 56.45. Based on the t-test was obtained t_(count )(5.422) was higher than t_(table )(2.00). Since the t_(count )was higher than the t_(table ), the hypothesis is accepted. It means that there was a significant difference in speaking skills improvement between students who are taught using Time Token Arends (TTA) strategy and those who are taught by conventional method (without Time Token Arends (TTA) strategy).
