Abstract

This study aims to explain the implementation and attitudes of students toward the Problem-Based Learning model
using the TSTS technique in teaching speaking conversations in junior high schools. This research method was qualitative research and data collection was done through observation and interviews with teachers and students. The pasrticipants was a teacher and 5 students from the eighth grade of SMPN 16 Semarang. The instruments used by researchers were observation notes and interview results. Based on the data obtained, shows that teaching speaking conversation using the problem-based learning model with the TSTS technique gets a positive response from students. The Problem-Based Learning Model can also be applied in teaching exposition texts, especially in teaching
students' speaking conversations. Speaking is one of the important skills in English because speaking is a productive skill that is used to communicate between two or more people. Its function is to maintain social relations so that they are maintained well. However, teaching speaking is not easy and requires special attention, even though speaking is one of the most interesting subjects for students. To overcome this, the Problem-Based Learning model is applied in the teaching and learning process to help students improve their speaking skills.
