Abstract

This study is based on the students’ difficulties in learning modal auxiliary. To develop teaching modal auxiliary, teacher should have a media in teaching modal auxiliary. In this study, teacher uses English songs. English songs aims to help students to remember and understand about modal auxiliary and improve their achievement in learning modal auxiliary.
The problems of this research can be stated as follows:
1. How is the implementation of English songs in improving student ‘achievement in learning modal auxiliary with the eighth grade students of MTs Fatahillah Karangawen Demak?
2. How is the improvement of students’ achievement in learning modal auxiliary after being taught using English songs with the eighth grade students of MTs Fatahillah Karangawen Demak ?
Its purposes are:
1. To know the implementation English songs in improving students’ achievement in learning modal auxiliary with the eighth grade students of MTs Fatahillah Karangawen Demak.
2. To find out the improvement of students’ achievement in learning modal auxiliary after being taught using English songs with the eighth grade students of MTs Fatahillah Karangawen Demak.
This study is classroom action research that was done in three cycles. To analyze the data, the researcher used qualitative analysis. The data from the observation that had done in every cycle analyzed in descriptive analysis while the data from test explained in descriptive qualitative. The data collection was done using observation and test
The implementation of English songs in learning modal auxiliary with the eighth grade students of MTs Fatahillah Karangawen Demak was conducted in three cycles with four activities including pre cycle, first cycle, second cycle, and third cycle. The participant of this study is 34 students in class VIII B. The result of study shows that using English songs can improve students’ achievement in learning modal auxiliary. This is proved by students’ test that improved in every cycle. In the first cycle showed that there was increasing students’ achievement up to 68.3. It means that the value of students’ achievement in learning modal auxiliary was good. In second cycle, the students’ achievement more increased 75. 2. It means that the value of students’ achievement in learning modal auxiliary was good. And in the third cycle students got 81.0. It means that the value of students’ achievement in learning modal auxiliary was excellent. In this study, there was improvement in every cycle after using English songs. So that English songs can improve students’ achievement in learning modal auxiliary.
