Abstract
To develop teaching vocabulary, teacher needs strategy that will make students enjoy and easy to identify the vocabulary. Teaching vocabulary using song lyric is aims to improve vocabulary especially about animals’ name.
This research was conducted at fourth grade of SDN 01 Sekuro, Mlonggo Jepara in the Academic Year of 2010/2011. The participants are 33 students as the object of research.
The objective of the study are: (1) To describe the implementation of song lyrics as teaching media to teach students’ vocabulary about animals’ name with 4th grade of SDN 01 Sekuro Mlonggo Jepara.(2) To improve students’ vocabulary about animals’ name after taught using song lyrics.
This research is A Classroom Action Research, this research is conduct in three meetings that consist of pre-cycle, first-cycle and second-cycle. There are two cycles in this research which had started by pre-cycle. The researcher use test, observation and documentation to collect the data.
The result of the study shows that by using song lyrics in teaching vocabulary about animals’ name at the fourth grade of SDN 01 Sekuro Mlonggo Jepara in The Academic Year of 2010/2011, teacher can improve students’ understanding on vocabulary especially about animals’ name. This improvement can see from the result of students’ average score and good responses by students. The result after getting all of the treatment using song lyrics, the students’ average score increased in line with the increase of the students’ achievement in each cycle. Students’ average score from the pre cycle was 57.3, first cycle was 68.5, and second cycle was 77.9.
The result of the research shows that the students’ improvement on vocabulary especially about animals’ name is effective by using song lyrics. They are better in spelling the animals’ name and pronounce the animals’ name than before given treatment. Therefore, the result of this study is expects to be information for English teachers in teaching vocabulary.
