Abstract
The background of the study in this research is based on the students’ difficulties in comprehending procedure textswriting. To develop it skill, teacher needs media that will make students enjoy and easy to write. Teaching writing using series of pictures is aimed to improvestudents’ procedure texts writing.
The problems of this research can be stated as follow:
1. How is the implementation of series of pictures in teaching writing procedure texts of the seventh year students of MTs Mafatihul Akhlaq Jepara in the academic year of 2009/2010?
2. How is the improvement of students' writing procedure text after being taught using series of pictures?
Its purposesare:
1. To suggest how series of pictures areimplemented in teaching writing procedure texts atthe seventh year students of MTs Mafatihul Akhlaq Jepara in the academic year of 2009/2010.
2. To describe and analyze how the improvement of students' writing procedure text after being taught using series of pictures.
The populations of this study are the seventh grade students of MTs Mafatihul Akhlaq Jepara in the academic year of 2009/2010. There are two classes, A and B. each class consists of 28 students. The researcher took class A as the subject of the research.
This research is designedin classroom action research.It is aimed at enhancing students’ participation and comprehension in writing course. There are three cycles in this classroom action research, each cycle has several steps such as identifying an area of focus, collecting data,analyzing and Interpreting data, develop an actionplanning: 1) Planning, 2) Acting; which includes of pre-eliminary research, first cycle, second cycle, the third cycle and post test, 3)observing, and 4) reflecting.
The Data collection techniques used are documentation and test. In this research, the researcher took a test of their achievements in each cycle. In the pre-eliminary research, the average of the students’ achievement was 56. 5. In the first cycle, the average of the students’ achievement was 58. 30. In the second cycle, the students got 62. 32 in the third cycle the students got 67. 78 and in the post-test, the average of the students’ achievement was 71. 78.
Result of the research shows that the students improve their writingskills by using series of pictures. They were better in the fivewriting elements (content, vocabulary, grammar, organization and mechanic.
