Abstract
The thesis discusses the effectiveness of the use of active learning through “Who is in the Class Strategy” for teaching speaking descriptive text. The background of study is the importance of English, especially speaking skill, to communicate in real life context. But, many students who have learned English for several years still cannot communicate using English. They are even afraid to speak in English. So the researcher thought that there should be a solution to cope with that problem. The researcher tried to know the effectiveness of active learning through “Who is in the Class Strategy” for teaching speaking especially in descriptive text.
The study is aimed at responding the question: how is the effectiveness of active learning through “Who is in the Class Strategy” for teaching speaking descriptive text at the tenth grade students of MA NU Nurul Huda Semarang in the academic year of 2011/2012? The topic is discussed through the research in MA NU Nurul Huda Semarang. The school is used as the data source to know the implementation of active learning through “Who is in the Class Strategy” for teaching speaking descriptive text. The population of the research was the tenth grade students of MA NU Nurul Huda Semarang. The technique of data collection is done through test and documentation. Then, all data are identified using the experiment design.
The study shows that the students who were taught by using “Who is in the Class Strategy” have been improved their speaking skill in descriptive text than the students who were taught without using “Who is in the Class Strategy”. The students who were taught by using “Who is in the Class Strategy” can be more active in the process of teaching speaking descriptive text and they can produce words actively. The most important is the students can enjoy the learning process so that the students can absorb the material easily. It meant that the application of active learning through “Who is in the Class Strategy” is effective for teaching speaking descriptive text
