Abstract
Idiom is an interesting phenomenon in languages. Even idiom is little bit hard to learn but nowadays idiom creates a significant portion of our everyday communication. By song idiom will be easily to be learned.
The aim of this study is to disclose idiomatic expressions in the Adele’s “25” album, the meaning and the possibility to be used in English teaching and learning using song as a media.
The research studies of this thesis were (1) what types of idiom are found in Adele’s song lyrics in album “25”? (2) What meaning of idioms are found in Adele’s song lyrics in the album “25”? (3) What is the possibility of the use of Adele’s songs as an English teaching material? This study is descriptive qualitative research which used content analysis method which described the idiomatic expressions used in Adele song lyrics in album “25” and library research as research approach. Data on this research used documentation such as book, journal, and other documents as the data collection technique.
The result of the analysis shows that 1) The idioms found in the whole songs in the album “25” are 56 idioms. It contains 35 Phrasal verbs, 17 tournure idiom and 4 Irreversible binomial idiom. 2) The idiomatic expressions found in the Adele’s album mostly are representing misery, pain and sorrow. Some others are representing love, and wishes, 3) the possibility uses song lyrics in Adele’s album “25” as a medium in English language teaching.
