Abstract

The aim of the research is to investigate the implementation of using Dictogloss technique in the second semester of English language education department students of UIN Walisongo Semarang in academic year 2017/2018 in solving the students’ problem in listening and understanding British spoken texts. The method used in this research was quantitative. This research used pre-experimental design, one group pretest and post test design. The population of this study was the second semester of English language education students in UIN Walisongo Semarang. By using simple random sampling, the researcher took PBI 2A as the sample and it was supported by the survey. It consisted of 33 students, but the researcher just used 21 scores to be analyzed condering the attendance and also to keeping the validity of the result of this research. The class was given twice treatments. The instruments used in this research were pretest and post test. The result of both test was tested by using t-test formula. The result of this research shows that t0 = 3.30 was higher than t-table( 5% is 2.086). It is gotten from the degree of freedom (df) = N – 1 = 20, so then t0 is higher than t-table (t0 > t-table = 3.30 > 2.086. It means that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. It can be concluded that the implementation of Dictogloss technique is effective in solving the students’ problem in listening and understanding British spoken texts.
