Abstract
The background of this research is the difficulty which was felt by the students when they were studying English subject, especially grammar. Grammar is one of important thing that must be mastered by everyone who wants to arrange a sentence. This research focuses on one of the grammar rules, that is conditional sentence. Most of English teachers do their teaching with conventional ways. In this research, the researcher will share one of the ways how to increase the students’ enthusiastic to learn English subject. One of them is the use of song lyrics. When we talk about song, we also talk music. Most everyone likes listening music, so that the researcher innovates to create one way how to teach English subject using song lyrics. The problems in this study are as follows:
1. How is the implementation of song lyrics to improve students’ grammar mastery of Conditional Sentence?
2. How is the improvement of students’ grammar mastery of Conditional Sentence after being taught using song lyrics?
The objectives of this study are to describe the implementation of song lyrics to improve students’ grammar mastery of Conditional Sentence and to find out the improvement of students’ grammar mastery of Conditional Sentence after being taught using song lyrics.
This research is a classroom action research. It was done through two cycles. The subject of this study was students Eleventh Grade Scientist 1of MAN Pemalang in the academic year of 2013/2014. The number of the subject was 38 students. The data gathered through test, documentation and observation. The result of the study shows that using song lyrics can improve students’ achievement in creating conditional sentence. The average of the students’ result in cycle one was 73.4 and in the cycle two was 77.6.
Based on the result, the writer concludes that using song lyrics can improve students’ grammar mastery of conditional sentence. By doing this research, the researcher hopes the students enjoy in learning English and the English teacher can use this research as reference when she/he wants to teach conditional sentence in the future.
