Abstract

This thesis discussed about the effectiveness of using Think Pair Share (TPS) technique to teach students’ speaking skill of descriptive text at tenth grade of MA Sunan Kalijaga Bawang in the academic year of 2015/2016. Teaching students’ speaking skill is so monotonous that the teacher not using technique in the learning process. It can make the students feel bored. The technique can make students more active and interactive in the class, especially Think Pair Share Technique. The researcher gave pre-test and post-test two classes. Before giving post-test, the researcher gave treatment to the experimental class (the students who were taught using Think Pair Share (TPS) Technique and the control class (the students who were taught without using Think Pair Share (TPS) Technique. Then, the researcher gave post-test both of control and experimental classes to know the students’ speaking result. The formula that was used to analyze the data was t-test. It was used to determine whether there was a significance difference both experimental class and control class or not. After collecting the data, it was found that the pre-test average score of experimental class was 63. 333and the control class were 63.667. Meanwhile, the post-test average score of the experimental class was 72. 500 and the control class were 67. 667. It was obtained that t-test was 2. 120and the t-table was 2.00 for alpha (α) 5%. The t-test was higher than t-table (2. 120>1, 672). It meant that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. Based on the result, the researcher concluded that the use ofThink Pair Share (TPS) Technique was effective in teaching students’ speaking skill in descriptive text at MA Sunan Kalijaga Bawang in the academic year of 2015/2016.
