Abstract
Students who did not know the correct spelling of English words, they will face some difficulties in writing it when doing dictation. Here, the teacher should provide a tehnique that make the students be able to spell alphabet in English so that they can write the English word correctly. Teacher can increase students’ ability in dictation by using spelling bee game.
This study is aimed to describe the implementation of Spelling Bee technique in increasing students’ ability in dictation in learning menu at the tenth grade students of Vocational High School Islamic Centre Baiturrahman Semarang in the Academic Year of 2015/2016. The design of this study was classroom action research that was conducted in two cycles with four activities in each cycles, they are planning, acting, observing and reflecting.
The result of this study showed that using spelling bee technique can increase students’ ability in dictation in learning menu. This is proved by students’ skill test that increased in every cycle. In the pre cycle, the average of students’ score was 53, it meant fair. In the first cycle, the students’ test got 68. Based on the result of first cycle, it showed good and in the second cycle students’ test got 83.It meant excellent. Teaching learning process ran well. There were some significant enhancements from pre cycle, first cycle, and second cycle. There was enhancement in every cycle after using spelling bee technique. Result of the study showed that students’ increase their ability in dictation by using spelling bee tehnique.
